The National Games of India, often referred to as the “Indian Olympics,” are a prestigious multi-sport event that celebrates sportsmanship and diverse talents across the nation. These games serve as a platform for athletes to showcase their skills, foster youth talent, promote solidarity, and instill a sense of pride throughout India. The primary objective of the National Games is to nurture grassroots athletic development and identify exceptional potential for both national and international tournaments. By encouraging physical fitness, healthy competition, and sportsmanship, these games aim to bring together India’s diverse population in the spirit of unity and camaraderie.
The National Games are hosted by a different Indian state each time, providing an opportunity to exhibit regional athletic facilities and skills. This not only promotes healthy competition among the states but also helps in the development of sports infrastructure across the country.
The 36th edition of the National Games of India, also known as Gujarat 2022, took place from September 29 to October 14, 2022, in the state of Gujarat.
