The Special Olympic World Games, a momentous event that celebrates inclusion and sportsmanship, took place in Berlin from June 17th to 25th, 2023, marking the first time this prestigious gathering was hosted in Germany. With a vision to enhance the social interaction and engagement of individuals with intellectual impairments, the Games presented an international sports festival filled with vibrant energy and notable personalities.
This remarkable occasion brought together 7,000 athletes and Unified partners from an impressive 190 countries, making it the world’s largest inclusive sports event. In the lead-up to the main event, send-off ceremonies were held across various states, culminating in the National Send Off at the iconic Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on June 8th, 2023. This significant event featured a Torch Run and the presence of esteemed personalities who came together to celebrate the spirit of the Special Olympics Bharat contingent.
Upon the conclusion of the Games, the SO Bharat contingent returned to India on June 27th, 2023, where they were warmly welcomed back at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The celebration was attended by distinguished figures, including the former President of India, Shri Ramnath Kovind, who joined in honoring the accomplishments of these extraordinary athletes.
